LEBB – Bilbao Airport
Gateway to the Spanish Basque region and conveniently located just 12 km / 7 miles north of the Biscay capital, Bilbao Airport (LEBB) in the foothills of the Spanish Pyrenees, is a modern architectural masterpiece, symbolising the growing prosperity and popularity of the surrounding region. Serving around four million passengers each year, Bilbao Airport is one of the fastest growing airports in Spain and a key tourism and commercial hub for the north of the country.
Bilbao Airport has convenient links to main cities in the EU, UK and Ireland as well as plenty of flights to destination within Spain and to the Canary Islands. Cargo flights have become an increasingly important part of air traffic at Bilbao Airport since a large cargo terminal arrived during the 1980s.
During the 1990s, many major improvements were made at Bilbao Airport, modernising the facilities on offer. In 1997, a second runway 12/30 measuring 2,600 metres / 8,530 feet was built. At the turn of the millennium a definite highlight was the airport’s new terminal located within the north zone and designed to resemble two long white wings.
